15/ Beach stay in Nosy Be

by

Nosy Be, a volcanic island of 321 km2 in area is surrounded by emerald seas and numerous little islands. Covered with lush tropical green vegetation, rich in natural beauty, Nosy Be is also called the Perfumed Island or Island of Ylang-ylan because of its ylang ylang, sugar and spice scent. It is the first tourist destination in Madagascar. Rich in biodiversity of fauna and flora, with idyllic landscapes, beautiful beaches and welcoming population. It is truly an ideal starting point for cruises among the archipelago of small islands and to explore the west coast of Madagascar with its traditional fishing villages.

DAY 1: NOSY BE

Arrival in Nosy Be, transfer to the hotel. With a perfect climate and fertile and prosperous soil, Nosy be is the ideal place for sugar, pepper and vanilla plantations which are its main exports. The main characteristic of Nosy Be is the heady scent of ylang ylang blossoms giving it the tourist-brochure name of “Perfume Island”. Finally because of its nice beaches and the tiny isles around, Nosy be is the ideal place for sunbathing and relaxing. Night in Hotel

DAY 2: NOSY BE: Excursion to Lokobe National Park

Day excursion to the “LOKOBE Special reserve”. Transfer to the harbour where we take a small boat to reach the reserve. Located on the eastern side of the island of Nosy Be, the reserve of Lokobe is what remains of the rainy tropical forest of the island. There are forty-two species of birds, and black lemurs «maccacco maccacco” which are only found in this area. Thirty-five species of reptiles have been seen, seven of which are chameleons. It is possible to visit the buffer zone on the north-east side of the peninsula where permits are not required. One of the main interests of Lokobe is the village where we can experience the life of local people. Back to the hotel. Stop in town to see the local market. Night at the same hotel

DAY 3: NOSY BE: Excursion NOSY KOMBA – NOSY TANIKELY

Excursions to Nosy Komba and Nosy Tanikely which are isolated and tranquil islands accessible by boat. First we stop in Nosy Komba which means island of lemurs. It is the lemurs that brings in the visitors. One of the former glories of this island is its coral but it has sadly almost completely disappeared so snorkelling is no longer rewarding. Then we continue our excursion to Nosy Tanikely. It is a tiny island with a light house, known for its rich submarine park. It is also a rich place for diving, and snorkelling. We can see an amazing variety of marine life – coral, starfish, anemones, every colour and shape of fish, turtles, lobsters… Back to Nosy Be at the end of the afternoon, transfer and night in Hotel

DAY 4: NOSY BE

Day at leisure. Many excursions are possible like “Mont Passot” the highest point of the island where we can have marvellous views of a series of deep-blue crater and sacred lake, said to contain crocodiles which are ancestors of the local people.
